Nela Klein, MD, PhD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Nela Klein-González is the Chief Medical Officer of Gyala Therapeutics and led the preclinical development of GYA01.

She has a Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia and a PhD from the University of Cologne in Germany, during which time she was a fellow of the “la Caixa” Foundation and of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). She carried out her PhD research in the Molecular Tumor Biology and Tumor Immunology group, which is part of the Oncohematology Service of the University Clinical Hospital of Cologne, in the field of tumor immunology.

During that time, she was an author in numerous publications and obtained several awards, including the Basic Science Award of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT). Later, she trained in hematology at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona with Dr. Francesc Bosch Albareda and worked as an Assistant Hematologist at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, under the supervision of Dr. Jorge Sierra.

In 2018, Dr. Klein-González obtained a fellowship from the Spanish Foundation of Hematology and Hemotherapy (FEHH) to carry out a research project on CAR-T therapy in B-lymphoid neoplasms. She was also a member of the Immunology Service of the Hospital Clínic Barcelona directed by Dr. Manel Juan, leading the immune monitoring part of the CART19 (ARI-0001) clinical trial.
